I mean, you know the ones…abuse@ somedomain.com or abuse@ somewebhost.com. etc. These are the email accounts that one would send an email to to report any bad behavior discovered about a particular web site or spam coming from some server somewhere.
Well, I tried that the other day because I’d noticed an increase in spam comments and trackbacks and wondered just where these were coming from. So I started clicking on the IP address listed along side each one to discover where they were from. It got interesting.
I had some from Chicago, Amsterdam, Australia, Florida, Texas just to mention a few. Hmm, OK. Let’s see what would happen if I emailed the respective accounts for abuse and reported the spam.

I’m sure that most folks that know of either of these two hosting companies also know there isn’t any love lost between them. That’s plainly evident from this latest scenario about DreamHost making a serious goof with their billing and overcharged their customers way over what they were normally billed. Not all of them mind you but a heck of a lot of them.
The first posting on DreamHost’s blog is not what I’d call very professional but considering that they conduct themselves on a day to day basis in such a light-hearted manner, what would one expect from them? However, after hundreds of customers complained loud and long about it, they returned and posted again with a follow-up in a more courteous manner and tone with more information. Plus a third one with a final update.

When does one actually seem to go bad?
Is it when they slow down in replying to your emails asking for help with an issue? Is it when they suspend your site for using too many resources? Even when the plan you subscribe to allows unlimited bandwidth and an overabundance of space? How about when they add their own custom 404 error pages in place of the default ones that are customary? Yup, I bit the bullet and went with a VPS server because I kind of like the idea of sort of being my own SysAdmin. I think I’ll be learning the ropes about keeping a server up and running optimally as well as keeping running processes in check too.
Why VPS you ask? Well, to be honest, I’ve been a shared hosting grunt for a long time now and was beginning to feel the pinch of others “encroaching” on my server. In other words….overselling. So, I moved away from my previous host and came to rest here at Midphase. more…

Evidently, a lot is at stake in a name. Especially the name of a web site. It (hopefully) should be easy to remember, roll off the tongue and be kinda catchy. With all the sites out there today, this is no easy feat!
There are literally millions of web sites on the internet today. Millions! There are going to be headaches in store for anyone trying to come up with a good, catchy domain name these days. A fella by the name ofDave Zan has loads of good info on domain names and is a good source for those who are looking for that just right domain name. I touched on this subject in a previous post but as for the reason why it’s being repeated again, well…I’ve decided to change the name of this one yet again.
Yes, I know. It will wreak havoc on the SEO but The Mystic Bird just sounds so right to me. So, the change is imminent. Just a matter of time. May re-work the overall look too when it’s all over and done. We’ll see.
