Came across a post over on Lunarforums yesterday about a guy who’s computer was most likely infected with spyware of some kind. He had posted that he had surfed a search engine and then began to get emails related to his search terms not too long after.
This is most likely attributed to either a key-logger, trojan, or some other malicious entity of the spyware genre. I am assuming he was either using Internet Explorer or had no anti-spyware utility/app.
I suggested he go to Trend Micro’s web site to run their Housecall program to scan his machine for the critter(s). This is one sweet app they offer to help rid a person’s machine of virus and spyware infestations…for free! That’s a pretty good deal.
Their anti virus/spyware/firewall app is a good one to have too. It catches things before they go rampant on your computer and will also warn you of any intrusions to your home network if you have a wireless one running.
Now, I’m not advocating you to run out and buy it just because I said it was good. Go check ‘em out on the internet at places like C/net or just Google it to see what comes up. They do have a good rep from what I dug up a while back before I got it for my desktop.
Anyway, the point is that one needs a darn good anti-whatever running at all times or at the very least, scheduled regularly to check for these dreaded critters to keep them from watching every move you make. For those of you that buy online…they may be watching you for your credit card info, bank passwords, etc.
So, who’s watching me? Heh, no one to date but, who’s watching you?
