Vacation Technology is Cool!

Written by ScottW on Aug 3rd, 2008 | Filed under: Technology

We just got back from vacation and I gotta tell you: It was cool! Let me fill you in. ;)

We went to New Orleans for a cruise on the Carnival’s Fantasy and from the get-go, things were not quite what we were expecting. Biggest reason was the oil spill in the Mississippi due to an errant apprentice operating the tug pushing the oil-filled barge into the tanker. Needless to say, they had one hell of a mess on their hands.

We were constantly updated with what Carnival was up to more or less due to their online message boards and a late email telling us we would be bussed to Mobile as that’s where the Fantasy had been redirected. We would then board and start the cruise from there. (more…)

Posting from Flock

Came across a news feed about Flock releasing their V2 Beta and decided to give it a look-see. This is one sweet browser here. This coming from a man who really likes his Firefox 2!

There are so many features available right out of the box in Flock that I’d never have the time to cover them all here but to touch on one that is a nice touch is the Blog Editor function. This post was created using it.

It opens an editor with many useful functions in itself that you post your entry into including images that you can grab right off a web page if you like. The image below I dragged from a web page of mine.

Alabama Star Wars Garrison

This is just a taste of what all Flock is capable of. An interesting thing to point out also is the fact Flock is built on the same engine that powers Firefox 3 which is in a download frenzy mode right now.

Flock is getting a lot more attention lately and as far as I can tell it’s well-deserved. From keeping up with friends on your favorite social networking sites, media hounds, news junkies and more….Flock seems to have the bases covered.

Give it a try yourself and see what all the fuss is about. It’s available for all platforms too (Windows, Mac and Linux) so there’s no excuse for not giving it a try.

Technology! Then and Now

Written by ScottW on Feb 1st, 2008 | Filed under: Technology

I mean, take a look around you right now. How many computers, cell phones, PDAs, laptops or pagers do you see? Sort of took it for granted there, huh? Wonder what it was like in our parent’s day? How the heck did they even cope?

Past Revisited

TVTo be honest, all I can remember from my earliest childhood days is the black and white TV in our living room that we watched occasionally. Not a whole lot on back then! ;) Other than that, there was the AM radio and the newspaper or magazine laying around. That was The Source of information back then.

The paper was the main source of breaking news albeit it was only after it left the press room that it became “Hot of the Press” type news. You could either wait for the boy to bicycle it to your yard that afternoon or pick one up at the news stand on the corner.
