Seems an odd way to title a post but the two had a lot in common when it came to me saving what all I could from the clutches of a database failure on Merlin’s Minute (dot com). Allow me to explain further.
I had been having backups emailed to me from the server via a cron and script. These DB backups were then saved by yet another function available in Ubuntu Linux which in turn were picked up and saved to a seperate hard drive courtesy of the Simple Backup Config application I have on my install of Ubuntu. This was available on Gutsy Gibbon (Ubuntu 7.10) as well via the repositories. (more…)
Que the trumpets! Hear the roar of the crowds! Yeah! We’re back! (Yawn)
Well, it’s an accomplishment to get all this moved from one server to another (files/folders, database, etc.) and intact to boot. Seems everything is all back to normal once again.
What server? Oh, left that part out didn’t I. I’ve moved to a VPS server that will now be home to all the dynamically driven sites I’ll be working on now. No more needing to worry if a plugin is going to cause an issue with the shared environment or anything. No sirree! By gosh, if I’m gonna cause a problem, I’ll crash myself! 
Things might look a bit screwier than usual for a while here. I’m going to be moving the site over to another server that will handle things much better. So, if the site should disappear or become momentarily unstable…that’s why.
Hope to have things back to “normal” soon.
