Glitches and Hairballs
Still having some database issues so as they say on TV….”Please stay tuned!” As soon as I find that hairball that’s choking things down, The Mystic Bird ought to be in the wind again.

Seems an odd way to title a post but the two had a lot in common when it came to me saving what all I could from the clutches of a database failure on Merlin’s Minute (dot com). Allow me to explain further.
I had been having backups emailed to me from the server via a cron and script. These DB backups were then saved by yet another function available in Ubuntu Linux which in turn were picked up and saved to a seperate hard drive courtesy of the Simple Backup Config application I have on my install of Ubuntu. This was available on Gutsy Gibbon (Ubuntu 7.10) as well via the repositories. (more…)
Well, due to too many errors in the database which is still under investigation, Merlins Minute has bit the dust. The connection to Wordpress.com was a bust too as it was needed for the Stats plugin as well as some others. So, seeing as I had this domain already available, The Mystic Bird was born to continue on.
This is gonna kill any SEO I had built up most likely but seeing as this was unavoidable…I’m just going to have to get over it.
I am presently working to get the images used in posts back and updating any incoming/outgoing links to other sites and blogs. For now, I’m leaving a redirect in place from the server to here from the Merlins Minute domain so that visitors will find the site again.
If you’ve found me via the old site’s url, please edit your bookmark (if any).
Thanks for reading!
Anyone that has been around here reading this blog before will remember that I had migrated from WinXP to various flavors of Linux in an attempt to settle in with an OS (operating system) that would work well with my design work and general duties such as pictures, videos, image editing, graphic creation and site work. A lot of things happened along the way that headed me in the direction I’m in now with Ubuntu’s Hardy Heron.
Windows’ constant ability to freeze or crash right in the middle of a project was one of my main reasons for looking elsewhere for stability. Even though the installs of WinXP and Vista were as stable as they could be, all updates current….it made no difference. Thus, the change in OS’s was inevitable. (more…)
