Photoshop has come out with a new web-based way to upload and edit your images plus show them off to the world. Cost? Absolutely free! That’s right. For the cost of a little time needed to learn the ropes of how to upload, create an album, add images to the album, edit them, etc., you have a flash-based gallery to show off to your friends.
They call it Photoshop Express and it’s still in beta so there may still be some bugs that Adobe will need to work out but there’s a feedback link so that you can help them out with this.
All one has to do is to join the service (free) and wait on the verification email. Once this arrives, click the link and you’re taken to your new account to begin creating galleries. The limit at this time is 2 gigs but that may go up in time.
Uploading images is a snap but all they seem to accept is images in the .jpg format. No other formats are accepted as yet.
The process is flash-based and as such can be slow depending on your internet connection speed. Mine seems to have anchors keeping it at bay most of the time so my experience was a tad sluggish.
Once you have enough images uploaded, you can create a gallery for them and move them into it. Give the gallery a name, set a few parameters for the display (when your visitors come calling) and you’re set.
All in all, it took me maybe 15 to 20 minutes to upload, create my galley and set the slide-show display for visitors. Not too bad but a faster connection on my part would’ve helped greatly.
A drawback here is that you’d need to have flash enabled in your browser and a good (read: quick) connection to the internet. Dial-up users may want to take a pass on this. Also, so far there’s no resizing of photos offered yet. That you’d need to do before uploading them.
So, if you’re interested in a new way to show off your photos, give Adobe’s new Photoshop Express a try. It may be something you’ll like.
