Last year I wrote a couple of articles for a colleague about my experiences installing Ubuntu on my desktop. Seeing as the new year has begun with folks looking for other ways to surf the web in a more secure fashion, this might just be a good time to go back and have another look at the installation I did on my machine. Maybe it will help folks to give Ubuntu Linux a try.

With the stats late last year showing that more and more folks were opting for XP over Vista or heading on over to Apple land to give the Macs a try, it seems that M/S has a lot more bugs to deal with than just their new system. I mean even the service pack they came out with has removed any compatibility for past Office apps once it’s been run. What does that say? Nothing good in my humble opinion.

I’ve linked back to the articles I wrote concerning my installation of Ubuntu in hopes to show that it can be done quite easily the majority of the time and it will prove itself to be as trustworthy as it’s users claim it to be. All three articles are provided so that anyone can go over them and use the links in each one to gain more information on their particular computer’s installation process.

Again, as I’ve said before, I am no expert. I’m just a simple Linux user who wanted a stable, reliable operating system to use without worrying about viruses or botched updates. I wanted simplicity of use, the ability to add photos, download/upload files, listen to my music collection and more. All this I got from Ubuntu and it only cost me a little time. For a free operating system, that’s hard to beat. Oh and the graphic interface (the desktop) can be every bit as fun as the Aero flash that Vista has.

All links have been updated at this time to reflect the latest distro of Ubuntu that is now available.

Update: Here’s another take on which operating system is more user friendly and intuitive.
