Yup, I bit the bullet and went with a VPS server because I kind of like the idea of sort of being my own SysAdmin. I think I’ll be learning the ropes about keeping a server up and running optimally as well as keeping running processes in check too.

Why VPS you ask? Well, to be honest, I’ve been a shared hosting grunt for a long time now and was beginning to feel the pinch of others “encroaching” on my server. In other words….overselling. So, I moved away from my previous host and came to rest here at Midphase.

I found Midphase pretty much the same way a lot of you found your web hosts. I Googled them. From my research, I found myself liking this company right off. So I signed up for a shared account first to get a feel for them and their Support Team. One thing in particular stood out that I’ve not experienced in a while…near instant replies to submitted emails and short hold times (sometimes non-existent) if I called their toll free number.

After just one month I was satisfied enough to go for the Silver VPS account that I had been eyeing and have been equally impressed if not more so, by the level of expertise that’s been shown by the personnel working the Dedicated Support Desk. They’ve been very helpful with all my n00b questions and patient to boot.

I’ll post more soon on this VPS server experience and what I’m learning from it. Being my own SysAdmin hopefully will allow me to learn quite a bit about running a server. Also, I’ll have only myself to blame if/when I botch something up on it. This should be very interesting. :)

  1. Congrats on going VPS. :)

  2. Thanks Tracie. I’m enjoying it so far and the Techs have been awesome over at Midphase as well. Soon as I get my feet wet enough, I’ll try installing some other apps and/or software that I’ve been itching to try out. ;)
